  2. Back in the mid-'70's, the librarian was a something progressive oddity, much like this album from the Rolling Stones. At 14, I only had a handful of Rolling Stones albums, but aside from "Beggars Banquet", "Let it Bleed," and "Hot Rocks", I hadn't heard much of the earlier Stones until I listened to this great (yet, unusual) album over and /5().

  6. I get why this collection of demos and outtakes was looked upon as a kind of cash grab back in Now, it's just a curiosity. Being recordings from a six-year stretch, it definitely sounds disjointed. More taken for each individual track than as a unified album, Metamorphosis is a fair collection for a big Rolling Stones fan (hi!).
  7. "If You Let Me" is better than anything that actually made it onto "Between the Buttons," IMO. I bought this U.S. LP when it came out, what, 30 years ago now? 25, at least. It made a big impact on fans of the late-early/early-middle period Stones, who figured "Exile" for .
  8. Though it remains the only Rolling Stones outtakes collection album ever to be officially released, Metamorphosis is one of those albums that has been slighted by almost everyone who has touched it, a problem that lies in its genesis. While both the Stones and former manager Allen Klein agreed that some form of archive release was necessary, if only to stem the then-ongoing flow of bootlegs.
